The Stephenville Yellow Jackets are still searching for their first district win after a loss against Abilene Wylie Tuesday.

A quick start for the Yellow Jackets Tuesday night against the No. 11 Abilene Wylie Bulldogs couldn’t be held as Stephenville surrendered an early lead and lost 59-41.

Stephenville had their opportunity early and seized it. They jumped out to an early 16-12 lead over the Bulldogs in the first quarter, thanks in part to nine points from senior Josh Nowell.

However, that good beginning wouldn’t hold. The second and third quarters were where Stephenville fell flat.

In those quarters the offense couldn’t find the basket. The Yellow Jackets only managed to score 11 points over the 16 minute span, while Abilene Wylie scored 39 to ultimately put Stephenville’s first district win out of reach.

Nowell and Zoey Kendall led the Stephenville offense Tuesday as they finished the game with 11 points a piece. Also turning in a decent outing was sophomore Easton Jones who finished with nine points off of three three-point shots.

The loss moved Stephenville to 0-2 in district play. They’ll look for their first victory Friday when they travel to take on Graham.
