Stephenville athletic director Alan Haire was approved to be the new head coach at Salado ISD Wednesday evening.

Alan Haire's time as Stephenville athletic director came to a close Wednesday as he was approved to be the next head football coach at Salado ISD.

The news was confirmed Wednesday evening when the Salado Board of Trustees met and approved an action item with Haire as the lone finalist for the position.

Haire, who is a Salado High School alumnus, was approved to be Stephenville's athletic director in March of 2015 after former Stephenville head football coach and athletic director Joe Gillespie took a coaching position at the University of Tulsa.

The gig will be the fourth in recent years for Haire as he's gone from being the head coach at Lago Vista and Mabank to the athletic director in Stephenville and now the head coach in Salado.

Stephenville superintendent Matt Underwood also released a statement Wednesday regarding Haire's departure.

"Alan Haire has accepted the head football coaching position at Salado I.S.D," read Underwood's statement. "His resignation will be effective as of February 8th. The District will name an interim A.D. near the end of next week and post the position prior to Spring Break. We wish Coach Haire all the best in his new position and hope that he is successful returning to his alma mater."
