No. 6 Jackets cruise past Ozen
DALLAS - Stephenville (2-1) limited Beaumont Ozen's (1-2) usually successful rushing attack to just 14 yards as the Yellow Jackets cruised to a 31-6 rout in the Lone Star Sports High School Football Classic at Kincaide Stadium Saturday.
The Jackets limited Ozen star JaKobi Jones to just 12 yards on eight carries after he rushed for 1,344 last year. The Panthers had only 133 total yards.
Stephenville quarterback Tyler Jones rushed for two one-yard touchdowns in the first half and was 18-28 passing for 182 yards. Alex Sanchez was the third receiver to lead the Jackets in as many weeks, hauling in five passes for 48 yards.
Witt Westbrook rushed for a pair of second-half touchdowns covering 14 and 3 yards to leave Ozen in the rearview mirror after it was 14-6 at the break. Westbrook rushed for 85 yards on 15 trips and had 32 yards on four receptions.
Ozen's biggest play was a 61-yard punt return by Jones to set up their lone score, an eight-yard pass from Jordan Ozen to Andrew Michael to cut into Stephenville's 14-0 second quarter lead.
The six points are the fewest Stephenville has allowed in 11 games dating back to last year's shutout of San Angelo Lake View. The Jackets also forced two turnovers - an interception by Mookie Carlile that preserved their narrow lead on the final play of the first half and a fumble recovery by Kobe Beavers in the second half.
The next game figures to be a bigger test for the 3A No. 6 Yellow Jackets, who visit 3A No. 3 Waco La Vega at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
