Historic tidbits from wild football weekend

-Tareton State's 20-17 victory over No. 4 Midwestern State was the Texans' second-ever win against a team ranked in the top five of the American Football Coaches Association Division II top 25 poll. The Texans defeated No. 3 Chadron State 28-24 in the opening round of the national playoffs in Chadron, Neb. on Nov. 17, 2011. It was also the Texans' first victory over a nationally ranked opponent since a 57-56 double overtime thriller at Texas A&M-Kingsville in the opening round of the playoffs on Nov. 14, 2009.

-Stephenville's victory over 4A No. 2 Aledo was only the third time the Yellow Jackets have defeated a team ranked by the Associated Press in four-plus seasons under head coach Joe Gillespie. The last was a 48-47 season-opening thriller against Aledo on Aug. 26, 2011.

-Stephenville FAITH's 44-35 victory over Six-Man Division I No. 10 Gordon was the Knights' first ever win against a ranked public school.

-Lingleville's Edwin Chacon scored seven touchdowns Friday. That gives the Cardinals the two most prolific individual scoring outings of the last two seasons. Robert VanKranenburg had a hand in 11 TDs against Mineral Wells Community Christian on Oct. 22, 2011
