Tarleton State grad joins HPU men's basketball staff

E-T staff report

BROWNWOOD — Howard Payne University head men's basketball coach Nadir Dalleh announced that Colby Ebrom, a Tarleton State graduate, is joining his staff as an assistant coach.

Ebrom comes to Howard Payne from Lamesa High School, where he served as the varsity boys' basketball assistant last season, helping guide them to a 17-9 overall record and a 3-3A Bi-District Championship.

"Colby is going to be a great asset to the Yellow Jacket program," said Dalleh. "His knowledge and passion for the game of basketball is exactly what I was looking for."

In 2016-17, Ebrom served as a student assistant with the men's basketball program at now NCAA D-I Tarleton State University. The program finished 22-8 that year with a 13-5 Lone Star Conference record and an appearance in the NCAA DII national tournament.

"First, I want to thank God for this amazing opportunity. I also want to thank Coach Nadir for calling on me and trusting me to help get this thing turned around," Ebrom said. "I am excited to start a new chapter in Howard Payne basketball. I knew from the moment I stepped on campus that this was the place for me. The rich history Howard Payne has not only in athletics but the university overall makes this such a special place. It's truly a blessing to be joining the staff."

While at Tarleton State, Ebrom also worked as a varsity assistant with the De Leon boys' basketball team. In 2017-18, he helped guide them to a 23-11 overall record and gaining an Area Championship and a Regional Quarterfinal title along the way.

Ebrom graduated in 2019 with honors from Tarleton State University with a degree in kinesiology. He is married to Abigail.
