SHS netters to play bi-district playoff Oct. 26

Mark Wilson

Stephenville High School’s team tennis squad will play host its bi-district playoff match on Monday, Oct. 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Tarleton State University against an opponent to be determined.

In its final district match, Oct. 1, the Yellow Jackets and Honeybees varsity squads lost to “a well-coached and talented Brownwood team” by a 19-0 count, SHS coach Karen Greenhaw said.

“Brownwood boys are predominantly seniors having played since junior high,” Greenhaw said. “Considering the majority of my boys have never played until this year I was proud of their effort and ability to compete. (The) girls were much the same; very talented and very experienced.”

Stephenville’s mixed doubles team of Dylan Jones and Maci Underwood “kept their match very close and made Brownwood work for a win (6-3, 7-5),” Greenhaw said, adding that the “kids never gave up, hustling and trying their best until the end of their matches.”

Other individual match scores from the Brownwood contest were not provided.

Greenhaw noted that Brownwood is No. 2 behind Brock in the current team tennis standings, pending the outcome of the Brock-Godley match to determine the final district rankings. SHS, which defeated Glen Rose, is the district’s No. 3 team entering the playoffs.
