SHS Bass Club competes in season’s first tourney

Clayton Easter and Mason Barney teamed to lead the way for Stephenville High School's Bass Club in the season-opening tournament Sept. 26 at Lake Lewisville, each taking home an Academy Sports & Outdoors gift card after placing 13th in the final standings.

Stephenville High School’s Bass Club’s first tournament of the 2020-2021 season was held Sept. 26 at Lake Lewisville, and the duo of Clayton Easter and Mason Barney led the way by finishing 13th in the final team standings.

Bass Club coach D’Anna Green said that SHS had 10 teams entered.

Easter and Barney caught four fish weighing a total of 9.92 pounds, and each won an Academy Sports & Outdoors gift card.

Also for SHS, Ben Kirbo and Coy Eakin placed 32nd with two fishing weighing a total of 5.62 pounds.

And Brady Morton and Carson McKinney finished 85th with one fish weighing 1.86 pounds.

Green noted that there were a total of 208 teams that fished out of 37 schools in the West Division of the tournament. There were a total of 203 fish caught, with a combined weight of 497.13 pounds, and an average weight of 2.45 pounds

The next tournament for the SHS Bass Club team is scheduled for Oct.17 at Possum Kingdom Lake.
