Cross country teams 1st, 2nd in Gatesville meet
The Stephenville High School girls and boys cross country teams got a bit of an early look at their District 6-4A competition Saturday in Gatesville’s Bill Bradley Invitational meet.
The Honeybees took second place in their division, and the Yellow Jackets placed third among the varsity boys.
The only school from Stephenville’s five-team cross country district that did not compete in the Gatesville meet was Glen Rose.
“It was a nice little district preview for us; Gatesville, Lampasas, and Brownwood were all there,” SHS cross country coach Beth Phelps said. “All the girls both JV and varsity ran their best times of the year, with three of the varsity girls setting new PRs.
“On the boys side Miguel Moreno just continues to get better each week and set a new PR. Overall, it was a good day for us. It also showed us that we have more work to do, because our district is shaping up to be extremely competitive. This week we run at Lampasas on Friday which is where our district meet will be held later in the year.”
SHS won first place in the junior varsity girls team standings, and placed second in the JV boys standings.
