Texans add another huge foe: Gonzaga
Tarleton State University’s men's basketball program continues to add to its non-conference schedule as the Texans will travel to Spokane, Washington to play Gonzaga in its first season as an NCAA Division I program.
The Texans will play the Bulldogs in a non-conference game on Dec. 14, 2020 at the McCarthey Athletic Center. The Texans are set to join the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) on July 1 and will begin its four-year Division I transitional period this fall.
It will be the first time Tarleton and Gonzaga have met in any sport. Gonzaga went 31-2 last season and was ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press Top 25 heading into the NCAA Tournament before it was canceled due to COVID-19. Gonzaga is the consensus No. 1-ranked team in most 2020-21 preseason polls.
This marks the fifth non-conference road game announced for the 2020 season by Gillispie, with the Texans traveling to UCLA on Nov. 20, Texas A&M on Dec. 2, Abilene Christian on Dec. 5 and Pepperdine on Dec. 23.
"This is another great challenge for the Texans that we are extremely excited about," said Gillispie. "Gonzaga has had as much success as anyone in the country for a long time and is as good as it gets program wise. The game will be a great challenge for our program, but a challenge we will look forward to as we begin our Division I experience."
The complete Tarleton men's basketball schedule will be released in the coming weeks on TarletonSports.com.
