The regular-season statistics have been compiled for the Stephenville High School Yellow Jackets, and now the squad can work on increasing the totals in the postseason when they take on Fort Worth Dunbar in the bi-district round.

SISD Athletic Director Jerod Womack said Friday that the 5-4 Yellow Jackets will likely be playing Dunbar’s 7-3 Wildcats in bi-district — assuming sixth-ranked Brownwood beats China Spring as expected in their game that was scheduled to be played Friday, Nov. 8. However, the SHS matchup could change because of the district’s tiebreaker rules — in the case of a three-way tie at 2-2 between Stephenville, Brownwood and China Spring behind district champion Waco La Vega (3-0). The exact playoff details will be announced after the outcome of Friday’s final two district games.

The Jackets played Dunbar in bi-district last year, and posted a 54-31 win before being eliminated the following week in the area playoff round by Celina.

The Jackets were the third-place team in District 5-4A Division I, at 2-2 behind Waco La Vega and Brownwood. Stephenville had this week off in the district schedule, but closed out the regular season with its 49-24 victory at Gatesville on Nov. 1.

Dunbar is the second-place team out of the five-team District 6-4A alignment. The Wildcats improved to 5-1 in district with their 34-20 win over Lake Worth Thursday.

Stephenville’s regular-season stat leaders include seniors Quentin Walker at linebacker and Kade Renfro at quarterback, along with two juniors — running back Kason Philips and receiver Gavin Rountree.
