The Stephenville Yellow Jackets held a one-goal lead but couldn't hang on and dropped their District 4-4A boys soccer opener Friday at home against Mineral Wells.

Eluit Reyes scored three times and teammate Jorge Gallegos scored once for coach Taylor Smith’s Yellow Jackets.

Just after taking a 3-2 lead over the Rams, the Jackets were flagged for a red card for taunting. That and other problems contributed to losing the lead and the game, according to Smith.

“We got a red card to start the second half. But we just need to find each other again. Too much division among our defense. Injuries have us getting used to each other again.”

The Yellow Jackets slipped to 10-5 on the season.

The Jackets play Tuesday at Abilene Wylie as district play continues. Their next game will be Friday at Brownwood with a 7 p.m. start.
