Stephenville's Ben Martin takes a cut in a recent tournament game. Martin slapped a team-high two hits in the Yellow Jackets' 6-1 non-district loss to Lorena Tuesday night.

Stephenville opened up Tuesday’s non-district baseball matchup with Lorena on a positive note, but couldn’t hold on, falling 6-1.

The Yellow Jackets scored first, taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the first. The Leopards, however, answered with the tying run in the bottom of the inning and another score in the bottom of the second.

Leading 2-1, LHS rolled for three fifth inning runs to ice the game.

On the night, Stephenville managed six hits, including two hits and a run scored in four plate appearances by clean-up hitter Ben Martin, and a hit apiece from leadoff man Brock Morrison, Alex Jimenez, Bradley Morrison and Sam Weber.

Josh Bulla lasted five innings on the mound giving up five runs, three of them earned, on seven hits and striking out seven. Martin came on in relief allowing two hits, a run and striking out one in an inning and a third.

The Leopards racked up nine hits and committed three errors on the night.

Stephenville returns home Friday to host Waco Robinson in a 7 p.m. non-district meeting. The ‘Jackets travel to face the Ranger College JV on Tuesday before opening District 6-4A competition at home against Mineral Wells on March 27.
