Graham knockes off Wylie; to face 'Jackets

E-T Staff Report

The Graham Steers proved their regular season win over Abilene Wylie was no fluke Friday night when they repeated the feat, knocking off the Bulldogs 20-7 in a Class 4A regional semifinal.

The Steers face Stephenville, a 59-32 winner over Big Spring in the weekend’s other Region I semifinal battle, Friday in Mineral Wells.

Graham utilized a strong running game and five Wylie turnovers to beat the Bulldogs.

The Steers, despite facing a stiff wind, controlled the ball in the opening quarter and drove for a score and an early 7-0 advantage.

Conversely, Wylie's offense had difficulty moving the ball. In fact, starting quarterback J.T. Cary threw three interceptions.

Graham stretched the lead to 14-0, before the Bulldogs put together a scoring drive that ended with a Tyler Ward to Jaxson Money touchdown. Graham led 14-7 at halftime and Wylie continued to suffer turnovers in the second half. Two more Bulldog fumbles stymied scoring opportunities.

An 80-yard TD pass to Todd Parker expanded the Graham lead to 20-7 and effectively put the game away.

Wylie, District 3-4A champion, winds up the season with a 10-3 record. Graham improves to 11-2 and has won eight in a row dating back to Oct. 10.
