Newton ends Lions' playoff run

E-T Staff Report

BUFFALO – Dublin jumped out to an early lead, but Newton proved to be too much for the Lions as they fell in the area round of the Class 3A playoffs Friday night, 55-13.

Manny Ramirez set up an early Isaac Campos field goal, converting a fake punt into a first down.

No. 4 Newton, 9-3, responded with six consecutive touchdowns, including runs of 97 and 70 yards before the Lions got back on the scoreboard with another FG.

Dublin finishes its historic playoff season at 7-5, earning a slot in the playoffs for the first time in a decade. The loss to Newton halted a 3-game winning streak that featured a 54-6 domination of Corsicana Mildred in last week’s bi-district round.
