Anytime Fitness has new look, new location

Stephenville’s Anytime Fitness franchise is now in a new location.

The move, to 2900 Washington St., Suite 21 in University Plaza, was complete late last month. The new facility opened to members as of Aug. 26. Everything was fully in place two days later, according to the facility’s head personal trainer Donny Hill.

The new location’s overall space is slightly smaller — 6,200 square feet, compared to 6,900 square feet at the previous location — but has a different feel and a better layout, Hill said.

Hill, who grew up in Big Spring before coming here to enroll in Tarleton State University, said that Anytime Fitness had first opened about 13 years ago in its old location in the Bosque River Center. Hill has been a trainer at Anytime Fitness for 11 of those years.

“It was time. The layout is designed for personal training to be the main thing,” said Hill, who earned a master’s degree from Tarleton State University and has been an adjunct instructor in the school’s Kinesiology Department since 2007. “It’s more efficient for us to train our clients.”

He noted that it has a different feel and a different look, including a higher ceiling and brighter colors to “change with the times” because “our last club was outdated.”

Hill added, “The main thing is just the environment. The environment is warm and inviting for people to come in and be successful no matter what their goal is — and that’s due to the staff.”

Gym Manager Sky Thornburg has been with Anytime Fitness for three years, and Jason Holland is entering his ninth year as a personal trainer. Debbie Bitzkie is assistant gym manager and a trainer. Anytime Fitness will be losing one trainer, Kyrstin Schultz, who has four years of experience but will be leaving to enroll in nursing school.

“She’s been a big part of our gym,” Hill said of Schultz. “She’s going to be missed.”

Hill said that the staff members work to make sure clients “have a great experience when they walk in the door.”

All of the familiar exercise options and cardio equipment stations are still available — StairMasters, treadmills, stationary bikes, spin bikes, pull-up bars, suspension exercises and resistance exercise bands, plus a variety of dumbbells (ranging from 2 to 95 pounds) and two different cable systems. Adaptive motion trainers offer three options in one — with a StairMaster, glider and elliptical.

“The biggest new addition is the TRX platform,” Hill said, also noting the creation of a studio center for those who may prefer a work space separate from the main open gym area.

Hill noted that the recommended COVID-19 health precautions are in use, and work stations are sanitized by staff members.
