Ice cream social makes return to downtown

Who’s ready to enjoy some homemade ice cream and have a little fun with your neighbors?

Residents will get the chance Thursday when the Stephenville Downtown Merchants Association hosts its third annual ice cream social from 6-8 p.m. on the courthouse square.

”We will be selling $2 wristbands again this year and that gets you tastings at all the participating stores. It also gets you a raffle ticket for an ice cream maker and basket of ice cream fixings,” said KayLee Pemberton, president of the organization. “So far we have at least eight stores that are making their own ice cream.”

Blue-Eyed Buffalo won last year’s friendly competition with its “cookie monster” ice cream that included chunks of Oreos, chocolate chips and a little blue food coloring for good measure.

“This year we are making a Jell-O ice cream and we will have a couple of flavors,” Pemberton, who also works at Blue-Eyed Buffalo, said. “We have a title to uphold, so this is serious.”

Proceeds from the event will be used for the continued beautification of the downtown area.

The family-friendly event will also feature classic cars, music and an upbeat atmosphere that is perfect for a warm summer night.
