Tarleton to host internationally known musicians Thursday

One of America’s foremost orchestral trumpeters, Craig Morris, will present a guest recital at Tarleton State University on Thursday in the theater of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center. 

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Morris is associate professor at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami–Coral Gables, where he teaches trumpet and coaches chamber music. Previously he was principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony and associate principal trumpet of the San Francisco Symphony.

Performing as pianist for Thursday’s event will be Rebecca Wilt, who has received national and international recognition as a virtuoso collaborative pianist.

Wilt has worked with prominent wind instrument performers across the globe as well as some of the country’s foremost vocalists. She has performed in some of the world’s top venues in North America, Europe and Asia.

Opening Thursday’s program will be an arrangement by Sofia Kraevska and Morris of Claude Debussy’s four-movement Suite Bergamasque, followed by.Monkeyshines by Roshanne Etezady.

The duo also will perform Quattro pezzi (“Four Pieces”) by Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi. The program closes with American avant-garde composer George Antheil’s Trumpet Sonata from 1951.
