Donald Kelm announced that Erath 4H extension agent Emily Sims would be leaving her position and introduced new agent Helen Hardy to Erath County commissioners on Wednesday.

At Wednesday’s Erath County commissioners court meeting, Donald Kelm, district extension administrator for central Texas, announced that Erath 4H extension agent Emily Sims is leaving her position and announced a new candidate for the role.

“Emily resigned to move closer to where her husband is and we have an applicant that I feel very fortunate to introduce,” Kelm said. “I believe Helen (Hardy) has a very good skill set. During the interview I have (applicants) do a presentation about what they can bring to the position and what their vision for the position is. Helen came in and did an extremely good job.”

Hardy received her bachelors and masters degrees from Texas A&M University and is set to take over the role on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Sims was hired as an Erath County 4H and youth development extension agent in 2013 and dedicated her time to managing the programs while providing leadership to volunteers and educational programs for youth in the county.

Erath 4H extension agent Donna White is also retiring.

“Donna’s position is open so hopefully we don’t have much time between her last day and interviewing,” Kelm said.
