5 things to do this weekend

The weekend is approaching with some great area happenings, including special Valentine’s Day events. Make it a good one!

1. Library story time with special guest

Round up the kiddos and head to the Stephenville Public Library for its weekly story time taking place at 10:30 a.m. Friday. This week will feature special guest Congressman Mike Conaway who will read to the kids. For more information call the library at 254-918-1203.

2. IF: Local First Baptist Church

Join the First Baptist Church Women’s Ministry for a gathering of encouragement taking place from 6-9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m.-noon and 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the FBC’s Paradigm Building. 3. Birding in the Valley

Enjoy the great outdoors and check out area birds at Dinosaur Valley State Park’s Birding in the Valley event taking place from 8-9 a.m. Saturday starting at the park store. Look and listen to birds with a park ranger and bring your own binoculars. For more information visit the Facebook event page or call 254-897-4588.

4. Go Fast Races

Catch some high-speed barrel racing at the Go Fast Races event taking place Saturday and Sunday at Lone Star Arena. For more information visit www.gofastraces.com.

5. Valentine’s Day events

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and there will be some great couple events taking place in the area. Veldhuizen Cheese will hold a cheese and wine pairing event from 3-4 p.m. Saturday for $30 per person. Call 254-968-3098 to make a reservation. Fossil Rim will hold its annual Sweetheart Safari Dinner and Tour for $95 per person from 4-8 p.m. Saturday. To make a reservation call 254-897-2960. The Stephenville Music Club will present the annual Valentine Musical at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Stephenville Historical House Museum’s Chapel on the Bosque. The musical is free and open to the public.
