Boots on the Ground Campaign seeks donations for troops

Harry Woodward, commander of DAV Chapter 234, has announced the chapter's Boots on the Ground program, in which donations for service members in Afghanistan and Iraq are now being accepted.

Disabled American Veterans Chapter 234 and its auxiliary are working on a "Boots on the Ground Campaign” and asking for donations of various items that will be sent to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“Items will be collected and sent to the troops to help comfort them and let them know we are there for them in all ways,” said Harry Woodward, Chapter 234 commander. “These are not Christmas packages; they will arrive to combat troops sometime in January and February.”

The items can be dropped off at the local DAV office where they will be packaged and sent in partnership with a current member of the military who will help distribute the items to our troops.

“We will work with local schools and others to see that some personal touches are also added to the packages. Letters, notes and comfort items can help someone who is far away from home," Woodward said. “Please take time to review the list, let me know if there are things that need to be added to it, and talk to others about the possibility of joining in this worthwhile project.”

If you would like to participate, please bring any items to the DAV office at 408 East Rd, Stephenville, by Jan 19.

The DAV office is open on Tuesdays and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If that doesn’t work for you, they ask that you call and they will arrange for a different time.

The DAV office number is 254-018-5560.
