7 area summer camps to sign up for now

Summer is almost here so be sure to get the kids signed up for area camps and activities kicking off in June, like the Stephenville Public Library's Dino Dig event.

School is almost out so plan ahead and get the kiddos signed up for area summer camps and activities kicking off the first half of June. Here are some of the top camps starting between June 1-17.

1. Stephenville Public Library’s Summer Reading Program

The Stephenville Public Library will kick off its Texas Summer Reading Program at 2 p.m. June 2, learning safety with Sparky the Fire Dog and local fire fighters and police officers. At 2 p.m. June 9, the SPL will host story time with Old Timer Raccoon and at 2 p.m. June 16, will host the Dino Dig. No reservations are required for these events. 2. Stephenville Historical House Museum’s Camp Pioneer

The Stephenville Historical House Museum will host its annual Camp Pioneer from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. June 6-9 at the museum. This year’s theme is ‘Native American Nation’ and is $60 to attend. Space is limited and those interested must enroll their child by Friday, May 20, by calling the museum at 254-965-5880.

3. Father’s Image Family Values Camp for Boys

The Father’s Image Family Values Camp for Boys will hold its first session for grades first-fourth, June 6-10, at 6159 County Rd. 371 in Dublin. The camp is free and will guide children through four days of fellowship and outdoor activities with an adult mentor. The second session will take place June 13-17 for grades fifth-eighth. 4. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center Animal Capture, Photo Workshop

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose will host its first camp, Animal Capture, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 6, at The EcoCenter. The camp will teach kids how to capture animals safely with demonstrations and will include a tour. The center will host a one-day photo workshop from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. June 11, with outdoor photographers and authors Brian and Shirley Loflin. 5. SHS Art, Theatre and Photography Camp

Stephenville High School will once again host its Art, Theatre and Photography Camp from June 13-16 at the high school. The art and theatre portion will be divided into two sessions (9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.) and is for ages four through sixth grade children. The photography portion will also be divided into two sessions (same as above) and is for grades third-eighth. Cost is $70 per session or $130 for both and registration must be completed by June 13. 6. STAR Council’s Camp GUTS

STAR Council will host its free Camp GUTS (Gearing Up To Success) from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., June 14-16, at the Foster’s Home for Children gym. The camp will teach kids leadership skills through fun and engaging activities and is for ages 10-13. Space is limited so to pre-register call STAR Council at 254-965-5515.

7. Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council’s Art Camp

The Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council will host its annual Art Camp for ages five and up June 20-24 at the River North Gallery. The camp will be taught by two Stephenville ISD art teachers and two sessions will be available from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and from 2-4 p.m. The cost is $100 and to register call the CTFAC at 254-965-6190.
