Anna Belew, wife of the late Stephenville firefighter Mickey Belew has announced the first of what is hoped will be many annual returns of the Mickey Belew memorial scholarship roping.

The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Circle T Arena in Hamilton.

"There's no admission fee for spectators, but there will be silent auctions all day and we hope to raise a lot of money for scholarships for students in Erath County," Anna said.

The event will include tie-down, breakaway, team roping and one of its biggest highlights, a match roping between well-known NFR qualifiers, Marty Yates and Timber Moore.

"I think a lot of people will come out just to watch those two face off. It's going to be a lot of fun," she said.

Books open at 8 a.m. with roping beginning at 9 a.m. and jackpot team roping begins at 6 p.m. Buckles will be awarded to all roping winners.

"We're hoping we raise enough money to give $500 scholarships. I know Mickey would be very happy that this will help kids in Erath County. He spent his life helping people both both personally and professionally," Anna said.
