Noah Cullis was hired Tuesday as the city's director of planning and building services.

Acting on the recommendation of City Administrator Pat Bridges and the Personnel Committee, the Stephenville City Council voted Tuesday to hire Noah Cullis to as the director of Planning and Services.

The position has been vacant since the summer when the previous director, Judy Miller, was terminated.

"I have interacted with the people of Stephenville and my impression is one of welcoming and a very positive attitude," Cullis said. "Your community seems to be very close knit and a lot of people know each other. I'm looking forward to the challenges of this position and I welcome them."

Cullis and his family have been living in Yuma, Arizona where he has been working as a project development planner at the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Site. He is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah and attended the University of Phoenix where he studied human capital, organization culture and strategic management.

Asked about the department he is taking over, he replied, "What happened here before is not going to happen again. Not on my watch. I can guarantee that. It shouldn't have happened. I will tell you what I am going to do and when I am going to do it and then I will do it."

Cullis will be back in Stephenville to assume his duties the week of Nov. 16, at which time the E-T will do a full interview with Mr. Cullis.
