Start of year sees above-average rainfall

E-T Staff Report

It's been a good start to the year, at least as far as rain is concerned.

The average rainfall for the first three months of the year across the area is 6.10 inches, but this year's rain totals have so far surpassed that standard.

"March was the best rain-producing month since 4.57 inches fell in November 2014," local weather watcher Dr. Stuart Chilton said. "Eleven of the first 21 days in March produced moisture."

Rainfall for January was 2.83 inches, February saw 1.60 inches and through March 21 totals 7.91 inches - a plus of 1.81 inches, according to Chilton.

Snow and/or sleet has fallen in Stephenville on eight dates this year - one in January, five in February and two in March.
