Competition to award thousands to local entrepreneurs
Randy Burch of Tarleton’s Small Business Development Center says a business plan competition called Entrepreneurs of Erath that is currently underway at TSU will net thousands of dollars to three local entrepreneurs.
“The top three finalist companies will receive cash prizes of $25,000, $15,000 and $5,000 respectively. It’s open to all new or existing businesses that are willing to locate in Erath County,” he said.
The details of the competition were announced at the annual STEDCO meeting in September by Dr. Barbara Nemecek, dean of the College of Business Administration. At that time she explained that there are three rounds of competition.
In the first round, entrepreneurs will submit an executive summary of their business plan. Up to 15 entrants will be selected for the second round of competition during which the formal business plan is required.
In the third round, up to eight finalists will make a brief oral presentation to a panel of judges on April 24. The winners will be announced at an awards luncheon at Tarleton State University on April 28.
“The Stephenville Economic Development Corporation made the competition possible by contributing the cash prizes. The Tarleton College of Business Administration, Dublin EDC, Tarleton SBDC, city of Stephenville, Chamber of Commerce and several community leaders are all providing assistance with the marketing and training for Entrepreneurs of Erath," Burch said. “We are just beginning to get the word out about the competition and have had 20 people already attend orientation sessions and we expect a lot more.
“Tarleton SBDC has over 26 years’ experience in writing business plans and will be available to assist entrepreneurs with all aspects of the competition. The SBDC will be holding additional training on how to write a business plan and tips for ‘pitching’ the plan in February and March.”
Rules and other details including a list of dates and locations of training classes are available on the Entrepreneurs of Erath website at www.EoErath.com.
