Delta Kappa Gamma begins new year

Special to the E-T

The first meeting of the year of Gamma Zeta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was Sept. 10t with newly elected President Cheryl Konz presiding. All members are women involved in education. he hostesses served a light dinner to 22 members and two guests. School supplies decorated the tables which were donated to a local charity.

President Konz applauded the chapter members on the awards won at convention for their outstanding work completed in 2011-12. Each year members have a project to support education and last year’s project was providing new or gently used books to HOPE or Forster’s Home for Children. For the upcoming year, Gamma Zeta members will serve as mentors to six first year teachers in Stephenville ISD. Members will support and encourage these young ladies in a variety of ways as they begin their careers as professional educators. The efforts will hopefully be very rewarding to both the new teachers as well as Gamma Zeta’s experienced teachers.

Delta Kappa Gamma exists to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. The organization began in 1929 with our local Gamma Zeta Chapter beginning in 1941. The next meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Oct. 1 at Faith Lutheran Church.
