Son gets life for hitting, killing mom with truck

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A jury has found an Austin-area man guilty of capital murder in the death of his mother, whom he hit with his truck as she was being loaded onto an ambulance stretcher.

Shaun Samuelson received a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without parole on Wednesday since Travis County prosecutors weren't seeking a death penalty.

The 46-year-old Buda man was convicted of killing 72-year-old Virginia Samuelson in a parking lot on southern Austin.

Jurors saw video of Samuelson stating that he was meeting his mother to get money and beat her when she refused to pay. She drove to a nearby gas station to call police and was being wheeled into an ambulance when her son drove into the stretcher.
