City council to ease water restrictions, set tax rate
The Stephenville City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to adopt the tax rate for the 2012 fiscal year. Also on the agenda is the expected approval of Ordinance 2012-22, providing budget amendments of items approved mid-year. Any items accepted will be covered by monies already in place.
Perhaps more pressing to Stephenville citizens is the announcement of the termination of stage 2 drought condition measures.
Nick Williams, public works director, explained the rationale behind easing the water restrictions.
“The reason we are coming off of restrictions is our aquifer levels have recovered, and all of our well systems are operational,” he said.
However, the removal of restrictions does carry a caveat.
“I encourage residents to remember the use of automatic systems will not be permitted from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.,” Williams said. “But use of soaker hoses and hand held watering hose nozzles will be allowed.”
The lifting of the water restrictions is scheduled to be announced Tuesday night and will go into effect immediately, according to City Administrator Mark Kaiser.
