Mayor Weldon addresses retired teachers

The Erath County Association of Retired School Employees met at 2 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Graham Street Church of Christ Family Center with 53 members present.

Dwain Bills, chairman of the Membership Committee, encouraged members to enlist new members to ECARSE. Also, members were encouraged to contact our legislators concerning future plans for TRS.

Randy Shaw, Chairman of the Legislative Committee gave a report in which he also stated a need to contact legislators concerning TRS.

Yvonne Jenkins, chairman of the silent auction, reminded everyone that the annual feast would be Nov. 6. A silent auction will be held at that time and members were encouraged to be thinking of their contribution to the auction. Three hundred eighty-two dollars was raised in last year’s auction.

President Fain reported that the district meeting will be held in Brownwood on Sept. 27. Speakers will be Ken Welch on the new insurance, District Legislative Chair Mary Etta Kvapil and TRTA 2ndVice President Nancy Byler. She also announced that District XV would be taking a bus to Austin Oct. 17, to see the TRTA offices and to visit with our legislators. The cost of the trip is $25.

Charlene Boucher, 2ndVice President, introduced our speaker Mayor Kenny Weldon. He began by thanking all educators and by commending our organization for keeping a “strong voice.” He then presented a very interesting and informative program concerning the status of our city.

The next meeting will be held Oct. 2.
