For the fifth consecutive year, the Bosque River Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas was recognized with a Six Star award — the highest award possible — during the District 2 meeting.

This year’s awards were presented Aug. 29 at the meeting, held at the Connellee Hotel in Eastland. Members of the Bosque River Chapter reside in Erath, Bosque, Somervell, Hamilton and Comanche counties.

DRT President General Carolyn Raney presented the certificate to Bosque River Chapter President Judith D’Amico, who said they were proud to have secured the award once again.

“We are active, but it takes the cooperation of all our members — even those that live out of the area,” D’Amico stated Monday.

D’Amico noted that only five of the 12 chapters in District 2 received the award this year.

Among the requirements completed in the process of earning the award were that the chapter donated Texas history books to local schools, distributed cards printed with the pledge to the Texas flag, maintained a chapter of Children of the Republic of Texas, and marked the graves of people who lived in Texas during the period of the Republic of Texas.

The Bosque River Chapter was also received recognition during the District 2 meeting for achieving growth of 8% or more during the previous year.

Each female member of the DRT is a direct descendant of a man or woman who served the Republic of Texas before February 1846.
