Wal-Mart, CVS to require face coverings beginning Monday

Starting on Monday, July 20, CVS along with Wal-Mart, will be requiring all of their customers to wear a mask while inside the stores.

Wal-Mart and CVS announced this week that they would require customers to wear face coverings beginning Monday, July 20.

Wal-Made made its announcement on Wednesday and the Stephenville Wal-Mart Facebook page shared a link to the press release stating the decision was made “to best serve our communities and protect the health and safety of our shoppers and associates.”

CVS made its announcement on Thursday and the Stephenville CVS Facebook page shared a link to their press release stating, “With the recent spike in COVID-19 infections, we’re joining others in taking the next step and requiring all customers to wear face coverings when entering any of our stores throughout the country.”

For Stephenville, the new rule is already in place for H-E-B and Starbucks, where the latter’s rule was implemented on Thursday.

The two major national retailers are joining with other companies like Best Buy, Apple, Target, Kohl’s and Costco for requiring the use of face masks in stores to slow the spread of COVID-19.


Erath County’s COVID-19 report for Thursday shows that the county has 325 cases total, 125 active and 199 recovered.

A breakdown of the cases in each age group is listed below:

•0-12 cases – 24 cases

•13-19 years – 31 cases

•20-29 years – 99 cases

•30-39 years – 39 cases

•40-64 years – 93 cases

•65+ years – 31 cases

•Unknown – 8 cases

There are currently 178 women and 147 men in Erath County with a positive test of COVID-19 and 12 hospitalizations.
