STEPHENVILE-One final trial run, then it begins for real.
Stephenville hosts Weatherford at Memorial Stadium here tonight, in the Jacketsí only inter-squad scrimmage before beginning the regular season next week.
The bout will feature three members of the prestigious Super Team roster, published annually in Dave Campbellís Texas Football Magazine.
Weatherford has Lewis Kapron-Moore at defensive end, a first-team selection of the Super Team. Stephenville counters with a pair of third-team selections in QB Kody Spano and DB Cody Davis.
The booster club will be having its annual hamburger dinner in conjunction with the scrimmage. Members with tickets are invited to enjoy.
The scrimmage begins at 5 p.m. with the freshmen, followed by the JV at approximately 6 p.m. Varsity squads should be on the field around 7 p.m.
Unlike scrimmages in previous years, there will be a $1 admission charge at the gate. All proceeds will be donated to the Texas High School Coaches Association Benevolence Fund, to assist in the care of injured student athletes and coaches.
Stephenville will have a short week of practice following the scrimmage, with the season-opener set for Thursday against Waco Midway.
The opener will be part of the weekend-long H-E-B Heart of Texas Kickoff Classic at Waco ISD Stadium. It is the second straight year the Yellow Jackets have competed in the classic. Last year, Stephenville dominated Waco University, 56-14.
