E-T Staff Report Tarleton State fell seven spots in the final NCAA Division II football coaches' poll, released Tuesday by the AFCA.

The drop from No. 13 to No. 20 comes after the Texans were knocked out of the Lone Star Conference and South Division title races, as well as erased from the list of playoff contenders with a 39-14 loss to No. 4 West Texas A&M in the seaon finale last week.

The Lone Star Conference finished the regular season with more nationally-ranked teams than any other conference across the nation.

Four LSC schools are in the top 25, with two - West Texas A&M and No. 15 Abilene Christian - headed to the national playoffs. Tarleton and No. 24 Midwestern State did not make the top six in the all-important final Southwest Region Poll.

In the region, Chadron State is No. 1, followed by No. 2 NW Missouri State and No. 3 West Texas A&M. Abilene Christian finished No. 4, while Mesa State and Washburn round out the top six.
