The Stephenville Honeybees varsity soccer team is once again searching for a new head coach.
Misty Benson, who was hired in late May after a stint at Manvel, resigned by e-mail this week, Stephenville High School Athletic Director Chad Morris said.
“I am deeply disappointed that she is resigning so late in the summer,” Morris said. “Her experience and qualifications were a perfect fit for our program.”
Benson could not be reached for comment.
She was hired following the resignation of Shiloh Posey, who took over the women’s soccer program at Wayland Baptist after the 2007 spring season. The Honeybees had become a consistent playoff presence in Posey’s three years with the program.
Morris said the excitement level surrounding Benson’s arrival in Stephenville “with our girls was incredible.” The job was originally posted in March, with the interview process starting in April.
“With her resigning this late, it places our school district, athletic department and girl’s soccer program in a squeeze to get a quality teacher/coach on board before the July 12 deadline,” Morris said.
“July 12 is the last day that a person can resign from a school district and be allowed out of their contract. I am confident that we can find a quality person to fit the job; it is just a matter of getting them to leave their present school district so late in the summer,” he said.
Morris plans to begin interviewing next week, and hopes to have a candidate ready to hire by week’s end.
