Hico - The Hico Lady Tigers dominated district rival Dublin and claimed a victory after three short sets Tuesday - 25-19, 25-18 and 25-14.

Hico jumped out to a 9-4 lead before a Tabby Baker kill gave Dublin the ball back. Dublin scored two points to cut the Hico lead to two. Dublin sent their next serve out of bounds and Hico went on a streak, scoring three straight to stretch their lead to 13-7.

The Lady Tigers were in good shape leading 19-12, but the Lady Lions put together a run scoring five out of the next six points. It ended when Jodi Reed sent her serve out of bounds.

Dublin scored twice more before a service error gave Hico the final point.

The Lady Lions sent the first five plays of the second set out of bounds allowing Hico to jump out to an early 5-0 lead.

Hico was leading 12-4 before Dublin scored nine of the next 10 points. The set was tied at 13-13 before a penalty by Kesslea Johnson, however, ended the streak, and Hico went on to stretch its lead back to three.

Dublin looked to be making a strong attempt to come back late in the set when Johnson set the ball to Laura Marquez for the kill, and two plays later Hico's Anna Mathews' serve went out of bounds. But then a Dublin penalty gave Hico game-point for the win.

The teams traded points in the third set until it was tied 10-10, then Gabby Nagos set the ball over the block attempt of McCamey to give Hico the lead for good.

Dublin had two consecutive bad passes by Reed and a penalty on Carolina Murrieta to make the score 14-10.

Only four more points were scored by DHS as the Lady Tigers rolled to victory under the lead of servers Stegall and Finstad.

Jordan Willis finished the match with 11 sets, five kills, and two service aces for Hico. Uptergrove had five kills while Finstad had four to go with an assist and three aces.

“They did very well, said Hico coach Barry Tooley of his players. “They backed each other up, they executed offensive plays very well and they were ready. They played well and I'm happy with it.
