The Henderson Jr. High Cheerleaders and Mascots recently completed a National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) camp. The camp was held at Tarleton State University and attracted over 300 cheerleaders from the surrounding counties.
On the last day of camp the teams compete in two of the three different categories:† Game Day Cheer, Performance Cheer, and Champion Chant.† The HJH Cheerleaders competed in Performance Cheer and Champion Chant.† The HJH Cheerleaders received the following awards:
Performance Top Team Winner- The squad competed with a cheer that they learned at camp and were judged on their overall technical skills, as well as the ability to lead the crowd.
Champion Chant Winner- The team competed with a chant that they learned at camp and were again judged on their overall technical skills, as well as the ability to lead the crowd.
Spirit Stick Winner- This award is presented the squad showing the most sincere spirit and enthusiasm throughout the entire week at camp.
All 14 HJH cheerleaders were nominated and competed for All-American Cheerleader with three of the girls winning the title. Ashlynn Mayfield, 8th grade; Lyndi Graham, 7th grade; and Jeyton Freed, 7th grade, were all awarded the title of All-American Cheerleader and received a jacket patch. This award is the most prestigious award given in cheerleading today.
The HJH mascots, Madison Hill and Bamma Strohmeyer were also awarded for their hard work at camp.† Bumble the Bee, Madison Hill, was given the award as the mascot that displayed the best leadership while attending the summer camp.† This award is given by the NCA staff.† Bumzley the Jacket, Bamma Strohmeyer, was given the award for being the Most Spirited Mascot while at camp. This award was voted on by the other mascots attending the camp.
The entire HJH Cheerleading squad including the two mascots had success at the campís Talent Show with a three-minute dance that was choreographed by 8th grade cheer
