STEPHENVILLE—Stephenville began the 2007 volleyball season on the right track here Tuesday, defeating Burleson, 3-1.

The Honeybees survived games one and two, 25-23 and 25-21, respectively, before falling 27-25 in the third battle. The Bees came back to dominate the Elks 25-13 in game four to seal the victory.

MaKayla Elliott was dominant at the net and defensively for the Bees, recording 14 kills to go with 14 digs.

Claire Goodman and Kelsey Anglin also came up big. Goodman attacked the net for 15 kills, while Anglin finished with 10. Sage Lasater tallied 23 digs.

The Bees hit the court in Duncanville Friday, joining a field of 38 teams for the Tournament of Champions. Stephenville begins tournament play against 2005 class 5A state champ Arlington Martin at 10 a.m.
