Mother Nature has taken an active hand in shuffling Tarleton State’s basketball schedule this season.

The icy weather that cancelled games over the weekend has moved south, forcing officials to cancel Tarleton’s doubleheader with Texas A&M-Kingsville, which had been scheduled for Wednesday evening.

“This schedule this year is absolutely unexplainable,” said Lonn Reisman, Tarleton’s athletics director and head men’s basketball coach.

“It’s very frustrating, but we have to keep our composure and keep our professionalism,” he said.

“We sure are tired of these cancellations.”

According to a release issued by the Lone Star Conference, the game “has been postponed indefinitely.” Parts of Highway 281 South are unsafe because of the icy conditions.

Reisman said that the teams could play as soon as Thursday afternoon, although that would only be possible if the roads through Austin and San Antonio clear up.

Reisman said officials would try to have a decision by midday.

This is the third time this season that bad weather has cancelled games. Tarleton’s doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma State, originally slated for late November, was postponed to early January because of a snow storm.

On Saturday, Tarleton’s road games at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla., were cancelled.

The TexAnns also had an early season game ended at halftime by a blackout.

The TexAnns (9-3) are scheduled to play Texas Woman’s in Denton at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Texans (10-4) will then join them on the road at West Texas A&M Jan. 24.
