NEW ORLEANS - The Tarleton men's cross country team moved up to No. 17 in this week's U. S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) national poll released by the league office on Wednesday.
The Texans are coming off impressive back-to-back wins including last weekend's first-place finish at the Abilene Christian University Naimadu Classic. Tarleton won in Denton in a fews ago at the North Texas Cross Country Invitational.
The Texans moved up five spots - the second largest jump of the week behind Missouri Southern State's six-spot movement - after being ranked No. 22 last week. Central Missouri is the top south central region opponent in this weeks, taking the No. 12 spot this week. MSSU moved up from No. 19 to No. 13. Behind the Texans at No. 18 is ACU, who fell 12 spots from last week's No. 6 ranking.
No changes were made in the top-five spots with Adams State claiming the No. 1 spot for a fifth consecutive week. ASU was followed by Western State, Chico State, Grand Valley State and Colorado School of Mines.
The Texans return to action next Saturday, Oct. 24, as the team travels to Canyon to particiapte in the Lone Star Conference Championships. The top two teams from the conference automatically quailify for the south central regional meet.
Tarleton is also No. 3 in this week’s South Central Region poll after being No. 5 last week.
