The Tarleton State TexAnns celebrated one of their most successful seasons ever last week, handing out team superlatives.
The TexAnns (36-20) won two games at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional, advancing further than they ever had before. They were eliminated by the Angelo State Rambelles, tournament hosts and Lone Star Conference rivals.
Sophomore second baseman Nicole Cone and junior pitcher Brooke Saulters, the teamís hitting and pitching leaders, respectively, were named co-Players of the Year.
Cone led the TexAnns in hits (65) and doubles (10), and was second in RBIs (45), home runs (6) and total bases (97). She hit .374 on the season.
Saulters, meanwhile, set a school record for wins in a season (24) and had the teamís best ERA (2.43) while throwing 230.1 innings and fanning 186. She was also one of Tarletonís better hitters, batting 3.91 and picking up 63 hits.
Junior shortstop Kelli Gayle took home the teamís Silver Spikes award, after running away with the team steals lead (19). She was the only TexAnn in double digits in that category.
Finally, sophomore third baseman Brooke LaRue and senior outfielder Lindsay Moore shared the TexAnn Leadership award.
