Tarleton State is one step closer to the hiring of a new head baseball coach.
According to Athletics Director Lonn Reisman, approximately 50 candidates have applied for the position since Trey Felan resigned following his fifth consecutive losing season. Felan served as head coach for six seasons after a 13-year stint as an assistant under Jack Allen.
“I’m hoping to have a new coach in place by June 15,” said Reisman, who added that the search committee met as recently as Tuesday and will meet again later this week. “Time is of the essence because of recruiting, but I want to take the time necessary to find the most qualified, viable candidate for the position, for our athletics department and for our university.”
With the application phase of the search complete, Reisman and the committee has moved on to identifying finalists who will be interviewed. The veteran A.D. said he plans to interview only 2-4 candidates before making a decision.
The Texans were 24-31 this spring, and went 145-182-1 with Felan as head coach.
