WEATHERFORD - The Tarleton State University athletics department raised almost $30,000 Friday at the 16th Annual Embarq Plowboy Shootout held in Weatherford at Squaw Creek Golf Course.

This year, 167 golfers lined up in golf carts, covering the 18-hole golf course.

The tournament also offered businesses and individuals the opportunities to sponsor holes to support the university. This year’s tournament boasted more than 70 hole sponsors for the event.

Three different teams shot 55 (16-under) in this year’s tournament. Two holes were selected before the tournament began in order to see which team won the playoff.

With the two-hole playoff, the team of Jerry Emmons, Steve Jenkins, Ron Wulf and James Young took home first prize.

The quartet Richard Cole, Mark Daniel, Donny Herring and Bill Thomas were second, while Ron Carlock, Daron Gates, Milton Kasper and Tommy Keith finished third.

Daniel also won the longest drive contest that was located this year at hole 4.

Andy Bautz won the closest to the pin contest on hole 17.
