The Yellow Jackets beat Killeen 2-0 at home in their district opener Tuesday.

“It was a good win, a good way to start district,” head coach Ramsey Wright said.

The game was tied at zero after the first half, as the attacking Yellow Jackets were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute, as Shelby Sharp crossed the ball to Mason Taylor. Two minutes later, Kyle Dolloff fed Sharp for a goal of his own.

Wright said the defense did a good job of denying Killeen good looks, and said the midfield of Zach Rathburn, Eric Goodell, David Huxen and German Chavarria played especially well.

The varsity is now 6-2-1 overall. Wright said he was “very pleased” with the win, and that it was “one of our better games.”

The junior varsity also won, 6-0, and was “in control the entire game,” Wright said.

Lee Tankersley scored the first goal, off an assist from Jacob Vaughn. Daryl Kilcrease then fed Brandon Hall for another goal, making it 2-0 at the half.

Ray Monrreal scored off a Kilcrease assist, then Kilcrease scored off a Monrreal pass. Kilcrease ended the match with two more assists, to Hall and Ben Barnett.

Wright said the junior varsity is “looking better and better every game as well.” The teams play at Lampasas Friday.
