IRVING - The Stephenville All Stars, winners of PONY Baseball’s Mustang League “West Region, South Zone” championship, face Guasave, Mexico, at 8:30 p.m. tonight in the 2007 Mustang League World Series.
The All Stars, a collection of Stephenville Parks and Recreation Department (SPARD) all stars, captured the Regional crown this past weekend, defeating stout squads from Saginaw, Granbury and North Richland Hills.
More than 50 teams qualified and competed for the regional crown that the All Stars captured this past Saturday.
Over the past two months, the Billy Morrison-managed team has captured District, Sectional and Regional championships, winning nine straight games along the way.
In addition to playing Guasave, Mexico, the Stephenville All Stars, who are guaranteed three games, will also play Joliet (St. Joe’s), Illinois, at 8:30 p.m. Thursday and Santa Clarita (William S. Hart), California, at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
The other division - “Orange” - includes Ponce, Puerto Rico; Irving, Texas (the host team); Swansea, Massachusetts, and Margate, Florida.
The top two finishers in each of the “pools” will advance to the semi-finals of the tournament and play at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, while the World Series Championship game will be played at 7:30 that same night.
