E-T Staff Report Ranardrick Phillips picked up his record third-straight Lone Star Conference South Division Defensive Back of the Year honor, while Tarleton Coach Sam McElroy has been named the Co-Coach of the Year.

Conference officials released football honors Monday on its website, www.lonestarconference.org.

Phillips, a safety by trade, was more of a hybrid between defensive back and linebacker. He had only three career interceptions for the Texans, but made a reputation as a big hitter over the middle and in run support.

Phillips led the 2007 Texans in tackles with 91. He posted four tackles for loss and broke up five passes.

Coach Sam McElroy was named Co-Coach of the Year in South along with Don Carthel of West Texas A&M and Chris Thomsen of Abilene Christian.

Tarleton is now 22-9 in three seasons with McElroy at the helm.

Tarleton had a total of 13 players listed on the first and second teams. See Tarleton first team honorees listed (right).
