STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton volleyball team got another Lone Star Conference win as the TexAnns defeated the Texas Woman's Pioneers in four games (30-27, 20-30, 31-29 and 30-18) on Saturday inside Wisdom Gym. The win was Tarleton's third in a row and the TexAnns got back to .500 in the LSC.
The TexAnns are now 9-10 overall and 3-3 in the LSC. With the loss, the Pioneers are now 10-7 overall and 3-2 in LSC play.
In game one, junior Emily Richardson recorded two service aces to give the TexAnns a 25-22 lead. With the score 29-27 in favor of the TexAnns, senior Alisha Bourgo registered her fourth kill to take the game 30-27.
Tarleton held an early 4-2 adavantage in game two, but it would be the last lead the TexAnns would see as the Pioneers pulled away to win 30-20.
Sophomore Prayr Giebler's service ace gave Tarleton a 5-4 lead early in game three, but great defesne from both teams kept the game close throughout. The TexAnns would then take back the lead 20-19 on a block assist from Richardson and freshman Rachel Wolf. With the score tied 29-29, Bourgo collected her fourth and fifth kills of the game to give the TexAnns a 31-29 win.
Game four went back and forth until a kill from Bourgo's gave Tarleton a 10-9 lead. Runs of 5-0 and 9-3 put Tarleton on top 24-13. A few key blocks set the TexAnns up to take the game 30-18 and win the match.
"We are a team of momentum," senior setter Susan Domine said. "Taking game three like we did really got us going."
Domine finished the match with a team-high 33 assists.
Junior Missy Castro (16 kills, 18 digs) and Bourgo (15 kills, 13 digs) both finished with double-doubles to lead the TexAnns. Sophomore Shay Gracy and Richardson both had six total blocks. Richardson added one more service ace to finish the match with three total.
Katie King had 16 kills and Jessica Crow had 47 assists to lead the Pioneers.
The TexAnns will return to action on Oct. 4 as the team travels to play Texas - Permian Basin. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Odessa.
