E-T Staff Report

Eric Williams was named first-team All-LSC South and three other Tarleton State men's basketball players also picked up postseason honors during the Lone Star Conference championship banquet in Bartlesville, Okla. Tuesday night.

Williams, a senior forward from Long Beach, Calif., is averaging a double-double on the season with a team-leading 12.5 points and 10.1 rebounds.  He began the year by being tabbed a preseason All-American by Street and Smith's magazine.

Others honored from Tarleton include South honorable mention pick Marlin Cloudy, a senior guard from Center, South Freshman of the Year Kalif Bakare, a guard from Alief Taylor High School in Houston, and All-Academic pick Wale Ogunoye, a sophomore forward from Cedar Hill.

Cloudy missed the first six games of the season with a broken foot, but came back to score 12.0 points per game while grabbing 4.6 rebounds.  Bakare led all South freshmen in minutes at 4.9 per game, and shot 46.7-percent from the floor this year.  Ogunoye, a pre-medicine major, was last season's Freshman of the Year in the South, and Tarleton's Dan Eichel took the honor the previous year, giving the Texans three straight winners of the award.

Tarleton begins LSC Championship play in the quarterfinal round at 2:30 p.m. today when they take on Central Oklahoma at Bartlesville's Bruin Field House.  For a full report, see the Friday edition of the Empire-Tribune
