A day after cracking the top 10 in the College Sports Report poll, the Tarleton State Texans moved into the top 25 in the two major polls that rank NCAA Division II football teams.

Both the American Football Coaches Association and D2Football.com rank Tarleton No. 22 in the nation in their weekly polls, released Tuesday. The Texans were not previously ranked in either poll.

Tarleton joins fellow Lone Star Conference members West Texas A&M and Midwestern State in the D2Football poll. WTAMU is ranked No. 11, while MSU is No. 17.

The LSC has five schools ranked in the AFCA poll, widely considered the most major of all D-II football polls. No other conference across the nation has more than three teams included in the top 25.

At No. 16 WTAMU is tied with Southeastern Oklahoma State, which hosts Tarleton Saturday in a key early season regional showdown.

Midwestern State is No. 18, and Abilene Christian is behind the 22nd-ranked Texans at No. 24.

As reported Tuesday, the Texans are the highest-ranked LSC team in the College Sports Report poll, staking claim to the No. 8 spot this week.
