Stephenville came from behind in the first two sets and never trailed in the third, sweeping Class 5A Weatherford 25-20, 26-24, 25-18 in the season opener for both schools at Gandy Gym Tuesday night.
The second game was the most dramatic, featuring a 4-0 rally by the Honeybees after they trailed 10-7, then a 6-1 run by Weatherford after falling behind 21-16. Stephenville needed an extra point to seal the win, capping the set with a kill shot from the left side by Christina Murphy off an assist by Rachel Choate for the 26-24 victory.
Murphy had another big kill in the third set to end a 5-1Weatherford rally and make it 18-15 in favor of Stepenville. There was never a question after that, as Bailey Williams ended the Lady Roos' next service with a kill shot and Kaylee Davis finished the match with a kill of her own.
Stephenville faced Burleson in the finale of the season-opening twin bill, but the match did not start until after press time. See the Thursday edition of the E-T for complete details.
