The Tarleton State TexAnns (8-3) may very well become homesick over the next few weeks.
They begin a five-game road swing tonight versus the Central Oklahoma Bronchos (6-7), then play Northeastern State Saturday.
The trek continues next week with stops at Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Woman’s in Denton and No. 9 West Texas A&M.
Of these teams, only the Bronchos and Javelinas currently have losing records, making this stretch quite a test for head coach Ronnie Hearne’s young squad.
The Bronchos are led by sophomore forward Lizzie Brenner. She is averaging nearly 15 points per game, ninth in the Lone Star Conference. She’s also one of the top rebounders in the conference, pulling down 7.5 boards per game.
A trio of guards combine to average about 30 points per game for Central Oklahoma. Junior Cassidy Pillow, freshman Cristina Yarbrough and sophomore Mallory Markus present a balanced attack from the perimeter.
Like the TexAnns, the Bronchos have just two seniors on their team. Guards Katie Crawford and Sassy Pyburn will be called upon to lead Tarleton during this trip.
A strong showing during this series, paired with the team’s dominating 20-point win over Southeastern Oklahoma State Monday, could establish the TexAnns as contenders in the LSC South.
